Hi y'all

I was driving my 66 charger on a 28 degree day and my hemi ran poorly and wouldn't idle
even when warm.
This sounds like the choke is shot.
Is this common with dual quads?

thanks

Could be a hundred different things.  The engine gurus here will want much more information.........

Good starting point would be to see if the choke is open or closed when the engine is warmed up.  :popcrn:

If it runs like crap from 1st start through warmed up, its likely not the choke. Is this an inline or crossram setup? Can you be more specific with "ran poorly". Is it flooding? Missing? Verify you dont have a stuck float or needle/seat.

jww426

It has rebuilt original carbs.
Its running lean.
I think the choke is broken.

Would new Edelbrocks be a better choice than the old carbs?

She won't idle even when warm.
Doesn't like the cold air.
Even at 165 degrees she will quit at a stop.
She runs like crap at full blast.

Some detail would help.  Do you have a test vacuum gauge?  Attach to a manifold source and see if the needle is steady.  Pull the plugs and see how that look - light tan on insulator is good, sooty black is rich, etc.  lots of sharper minds than mine on here, but lots of data is needed.
Mopar forever!

Did it run good before, in warm weather?

It ran great in the warm weather

How full is the gas tank? Possible you got condensation in the tank and now water in the gas.

jww426

I use leaded race gas.
Stored in heated garage.
Ill adjust the choke.
Too much salt in VA now to drive anyway.
Thanks!!!

I bet for one thing the manifold heat tubes and heat riser are inoperational, so there is probably no heat through the intake manifold. As well is the heat tube from the exhaust manifold to the choke mechanism in place?

I know Im an idiot...
but I can't find the heat riser tube.
Is it near the firewall?
thanks

I was thinking the same thing. Could be car icing - 28 degrees is cold.
So many blocked the tubes to the intake - fine for a warm day only car but not when it's below freezing.

Its in a heated garage, and wont run hot either.
