Heat help

I'm having a problem with getting heat in my 69 a.c. car. The defrost works great and gets hot but when I switch to heat I get nothing from the vents above the ash tray. Any advice?

I'm only guessing here, but I thought only AC came out of the center vents above the ash tray. Non AC cars don't have those vents.

So my heat should come from the side vents? If so it makes sense because the duct work is missing to those

Lol, I think only AC cars have those as well. Non AC would be defrost and floor??

It's an a.c. car but it doesn't work. So heat should be defrost and floor?

That's only a guess. I don't really know. All I do know is the fact that AC cars are the only ones that have those vents. Sorry.

I'm surprised someone on here with more knowledge hasn't chimed in yet..

OP stated in their original post that it's an AC car (unless it was edited in after the original posting).

tucknroll, could be duct tubes being disconnected and blowing air not routing to your center and/or side vents.

Or it could be your A/C heater control is not getting vacuum to operate the trap doors and the doors stuck to the defrost setting. No vacuum could be from a leak in the line from the engine compartment or somewhere along the run. Or it could be a defective vacuum pod in the control unit.

The vacuum line that goes to the engine compartment connects to a vacuum tree on the intake manifold. If you have power brakes, it's the same tree that the brake booster vac line uses. Check there to see if the lines are connected and check to see if they're dry rotted that would cause a leak. The brake vacuum line is bigger than the A/C vac line. In fact there should be a total of 3 lines on 68/69 Chargers with A/C and power brakes. One for the brakes, one for the headlight doors and one for the A/C heater box. With the brake line being the biggest and the other two being smaller and the same size.

If you got vacuum there and the lines are good, then it might be the vacuum lines inside the cab or a defective vacuum pod in the controls.

I have my 69 FSM here at my desk.  I could type the whole long two paragraphs under "HEAT" in the Air Conditioning section, but long story short:  Yes, like you said, heat will discharge from the floor and about 30% from the Defrosters.
