Can You Explain This Seller's Approach?

So I'm checking out Mopars for sale over at a certain web site (rhymes with Racing Junk).  All the usual stuff.  One ad catches my eye, and now I feel compelled to describe this ad and this seller, but I will not post a link or even describe the car, to protect the guilty party.  It's his approach that blows my mind.

He advertises that he must sell his (apparently decent) car due to serious health problems, his age, and too little time.  Price he's asking seems reasonable.

Then he makes the clear statement that he will take a trade, very specifically a '69 or '70 CobraJet.  :o  :o  :o

I do not get this approach.  Maybe ya'll can explain this.  How does a CobraJet alleviate illness, infirmity, lack of time and old age?

I thought a poll might help.  :smilielol:

Maybe....
He likes the Mopar but it tired of it. He always liked the Ford and wanted one but now that he is nearing the end, his only currency to use is the Mopar?
Maybe ?

Perhaps thinking about selling his first car ('69 CJ) is making him sick and he wants another.
Like me.   :scratchchin:

what is the value of & what is he selling?

Damn it Greg, you make sense.   :yesnod:

Dan, I can't remember at this point, I was having fun looking at tons of ads over there.  They only have about 100,000 cars listed.

I was sniffing around Hemi Darts and Hemi Willys(s), so it may have been one of them.  Seems he was asking 30k and it seemed reasonable for what was described.

I just have trouble with how broadcasting a serious illness makes for a trade to a hot car.  Selling yes; trade, not really.

Had to read your post and the OP 3 times before I figured out you were talking about a Cobra Jet.... and not a CJ 5/7 Jeep.   I was like, where did he say he wanted a Jeep?

His angle might be something like..

Most guys try to trade up, so he may be looking to trade into a car needing less work?
He would simply change his own lifestyle if he owned a new & exciting cobra jet, were as his old project car is not interesting enough for him to do so.

Or, you may be overthinking his "reasons for selling" explanation in the advertisement..he may not be as sickly as you take it..
lots of guy just put in a little background into the ad so potential buyers feel more comfortable that it's not a scam.

Pretty simple really.

& if the seller has a HEMI Dart or Willys (high mechanical maintenance model - non "cruise" friendly ??)

a '69-'70 CJ Mustang/Torino/Cyclone/Cougar w/automatic ??? might be easier managed & still enjoy involvement with the car crowd

That's my thought, the car he's selling might need lots of maintenance and he wants to trade for a turn-key runner.  :shruggy:
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Troy

Many people are willing to trade projects, race cars, garage queens, and high maintenance for clean, reliable, drivers. Odds are, if he sells outright he'd just buy something to putt around in any way. Which is why I advocate buying a good driveable car in the first place... saves a lot of time, effort, and money! ;)

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Maybe ya'll can explain this.

Here's what I think...........NOTHING.  What this "stranger" says or does with his possessions shouldn't affect anyone else.  Why personalize, concern or "trouble" yourself with it?

For the sake of discussion about the hobby. :shruggy:  --Good grief---The ad that this is all about was not even posted.

We here are talking and asking questions-- it's about learning and understanding/sharing the hobby as well as socializing.

Anyone looking to sell or buy a car or project is served well by open conversations such as this forum about a key and -maybe- primary topic in the hobby.

You (for example) expressed your opinion. Which was "NOTHING". :2thumbs:--  Why bother with posting at all?   Other than to chastise the group for posting with SOMETHING. :slap:

:-*   I feel just fine.

But hey thank you for worrying about me.

I'm sure that I'm probably wrong but I thought this was just another thread where people waste their valuable time criticizing and/or mocking a situation that doesn't affect them in the least.  Sorry for the confusion.  :2thumbs:
