How does this come off? 71 Charger dash piece

Hey all,

On my continuing 71 project I have a question. I am replacing my gauge panel with a carbon fiber unit from Classic Thunder Road and it came with a matching CF look panel for the passenger side dash piece. I got the gauge cluster out no problem. But how exactly is this piece attached?

I don't see any screws anywhere and the new piece just has a long strip of double sided tape on it. Is the factory piece held in the same way? I have to remove it to use it as a template to do the vent cut outs. If it is just adhered in there, any suggestions to get it out in one piece?

I believe you have to drop the entire dash.  :scratchchin:

Its attached from back with 6 screws.

Yo can try to remove glovebox liner and ashtray assembly and reach the screws

Here is a non vent outlets panel, but screws location is the same... check the pics seller posted and will see the locations

Mostly sure the vent ducts will be disturbing the access after remive glove box liner and Ashtray assembly, but is doable

About the vent outlets... the moving vents are attached, but the housing for the vents are AS FAR I RECALL part of the panel assembly, sooooo, I think you'll need to glue the new panel over the existant one, cutting for the vent holes. Nooooot sure at this moment thought

Here is another one with vents and with a rear view pf the panel. Pics are not clear enough but vents assembly aseems to be attached so it seems could be done at your new panel then

I managed to get it out without too much trouble. Removed the glove box and liner and the ashtray and back plate that houses the cigar lighter. The plenum was pretty easy to shove out of the way so I could access the screws with a shorty screwdriver.

Posted in my other thread in electrical but here is the new piece installed. And yeah I decided to just go over the vents. Felt this looked much cleaner.

Might be time to get a new dash or dash cap too.  :Twocents:
"Mopar 340 three on the tree"
BTW 3 on the tree refers to a manual Tranny, not a automatic.  :Twocents:

3 on the tree was given that name because people had to manually shift their 3 speed manual transmission on the column, not the floor.
