Petri.

Hi from sweden, i have one -68 charger 383 that i bought from this site some years ago, tranny had 1000 miles on it when i bought it , it has always had a wining noice and 2 years ago something happened and it has been sitting since then because no time to fix it but now its time.

Reverse works and dont wine, nothing happens in D when you give some throttle, if you put it down to gear 1 you can drive it but it is very noisy and you can also manually go from first to second gear and it still works but very noisy.

So what do you guys think is the problem.

Could be a hydraulic whine caused by an obstruction in it .
But chances are its torque convertor

Over the years there have been several service bulletins/letters concerning transmission whine, in most cases the whine is caused by a rapidly cycling pressure regulator valve. The recommended fix is to replace the valve body.

The noise is more of a nuisance than a real problem.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks for the help so far, it "works' when you drive it in 1-2 but nothing in drive so it should not be the converter? If it is the valve body,is it something i can fix by my self,i dont mean replacing it i mean renovate.

You need to put a pressure gauge to tell if its its valve body or worst.

OK, I misunderstood your OP. You're saying that the car won't move forward in Drive but will move forward in manual "1" and will manually shift to 2nd but is accompanied by the noise?

If so, the overrunning clutch (sprag) has failed. No way to fix it without removing the trans.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Yes John thats it, so i have to remove the trance now.

Did you start with the basics and check the fluid level?
