Starter grind after start

Put in new flywheel and clutch now the starter grinds for a split second after start. I wanted to make sure the starter was engaging properly so I pulled the coil wire and the car cranked fine with no grinding. This starter worked fine with the old flywheel. Flywheel is 440 source, bell housing is stock Starter is Mopar mini starter. Any ideas
Thanks

Have you a starter dust shield to move the starter a bit away from the flywheel?

Dmichels

That's what I thought but those are auto only. Is there a 4 speed version? I did notice the gear is close front to backto the flywheel at rest

Could you shim out with washers?

Dmichels

Yes I guess I could
Just looking for other ideas as I do not think I should have to jury rig this Just confused as to why I have this problem

I have a QuickTime bellhousing that comes with a reducer for the bottom starter hole, with out it the starter also grinds.

I hear ya but as of lately every part I've changed out added complications, didn't fit or work as you would think it should.

The only thing changed was the flywheel. I think I need a little more front to back clearance on the gear.
