Hello All,

I'm finally going to go get some of the detailed restoration guides I have noticed over the last couple of years.. I think MMC makes one... What are the best guide(s) out there for an OEM-type restoration? I know there are books that cover tabs, color codes, stencils, painted-versus-nonpainted components, etc along with books on fasteners... Looking for the best literature for B and E bodies 66-72 years...... I did a search on "restoration guides" and didn't come up with anything, so I looked prior to populating another thread... I have a bunch of stuff up in my brain cells, but there are so many little things out there.. Coming here since I know there are a lot of informed people on this board.

Thanks..
Troy

If they are anything like the resto guides we get over here for British cars...all they seem to do is generate arguments amongst the other experts and owners. I was at a show where an expert, who was the author of one of these books, was telling a bloke all the inaccuracies on his beautiful MGA....the man stood there in silence and listened, as I did. When the "expert" had finished the owner said in a very loud voice "don't buy this man's book...he knows f..k all". Then the expert stood there looking awkward as the owner explained that he had bought the car brand new from the showroom, it had never been restored and was completely and utterly original. My how we laughed..most of us anyway.

Troy,

I have the Dave Wise book for 68-70 Plymouth B Body including super birds.  There is no one single source or step by step guide.  That book is worth EVERY penny! Tons of information and pictures along with judging points....You will not find any other reference that can hold a candle to this one.  It is about 5" thick.

I went ahead and jumped off the deep end; bought the extensive Restoration and Judging and B-body fastener Guides ( Dodge )......  So, when I get the Superbird back, let the fun ( and challenges ) begin.......

For anyone doing full blown restorations, even with a good knowledge of the cars and processes, the guides are very much worth the expense.  As Dave states about his books, you will find situations that differ from car to car or plant to plant, but overall worth the expense.
