Definitelly I'm not comfortable with the eyeglasses. Yes is nice to be able to see everything better focused, defined edges etc... but I see everything trapezoid shaped and the floor way closer than really is which makes me get bad steps walking around. I feel the floor allmost at my chest height.

will be allways on that way ?

I have -1.25 at 114º and 83º on each eye ( not too heavy ). No myopia or hypermetropia, just astigmatism.

1 months "using them", but haven't being able to use daily for this unfomcortably sensation. Gets me sometimes some pain on eyes.

Actually I never have felt like really needed eyeglasses

It can take a few weeks to acclimate to glasses when used regularly, but it seems like you haven't. I would return to the ophthalmologist and voice your concerns.

I tried wearing glasses about a year ago and had to discontinue it. Not only could I not get used to them, it became a bit dangerous to drive with them as my perception of depth was all screwy.

yes, I have problem with depth perception looking at the floor and walking around.

what do you have ?

Hyperopia in one eye, myopia in the other. Yeah...

ok... I got a name for the closer distance effect and it calls somehow like "swimming pool" effect. An optometrist told me is pretty much normal being the first time

now the trapezoid vision is not

I have astigmatism (with nearsightedness) and have worn glasses for thirty years.  The first pair made me feel like everything was 2-D, I had no depth perception for a while.  It does get better with time....

ok, went to a diff shop ( but same franchise ) to get a diff test... it got me a diff prescription on the machine test. -1 and slightly diff degrees. Then the optometrist made a "manual" test changing the lenses and we got -.75

oooohm this wil be fun

My vision was 20/20 for years.
Then I got into my 40s. I started needing more light to see. Then my reading vision started getting worse. I wore reading glasses to work on the cars but it was like you said... distortion when moving around, depth perception loss, etc.
I hated wearing glasses, so.....
I saw a different doctor and now wear contact lenses. Yay! No more loss of the depth perception, no more feeling like I am wearing goggles, I'm almost as good as I was before Father Time reminded me of my age.

Today got my eyeglasses with the new prescription ( -0.75 both eyes, 90º and 120º on each eye ). I feel them way better now. Still able to see squares slightly like trapezoids and the floor slightly closer to me, but I think better than before. Definitelly more comfortable.

first day today... I'll wait more days wearing them to get a final conclussion or go to another optometrist lab.

I have astigmatism and keratoconus and I wear rigid, gas permeable contact lenses. I could never get used to glasses but the contacts are great (until some dust gets under them). I can see good at distances but up close I have to wear reading glasses.

The opticians don't always get it right on the lenses it shouldn't take you more than a day or two to adjust to them. Have your eye doctor check them out.
ALWAYS get the AR(anti-reflective) coating and the thinner lenses(spectralite or polycarbonate) but.....here's the biggie!
Consider going to contact lenses the new ones are amazing and then just buy off the shelf magnifiers for reading. I know a lot of people who are doing just that....myself included! :yesnod:

If you have a workplace that uses chemicals that emit vapors (such as a laboratory), the wearing of contact lenses should be avoided.  Use regular glasses instead during those times.  While laboratory safety goggles will prevent splashes and spills from getting to the eyes, they do not prevent chemical mists from literally gluing contact lenses to the eyeball.  That is a very painful experience to say the least, as I have seen it happen before...

I paid $400 10 years ago for pair of glasses that were supposed to be the shit. I walked out of the office with them on turned around walked back in and said these can't be right. I had to ware glasses as a kid and hated it. I was the kid with alot of soider on the nose pieces. astigmatism sucks I had not worn them for 20 plus years before I decided to get new ones. I can't ware them long enough to get use to them. Never checked to see if I could use contacts. Readers now, still sucks but have to see up close. :RantExplode:

The new contacts are really great even if you have astigmatism(which I do) don't even know they are in there other than you can see! Safer at night too since it cuts way down on corona around lights making it safer to drive. Most insurance plans cover contacts too, I can get a year's worth for about $18 bucks out of pocket, check into it...(GEEZ- I sound like one of those insurance infomercial guys.....) :eek2:

With contacts, you may eventually need readers anyway due to age degeneration of the eye. Or, if you really want a treat, you can split the prescription and have one contact for reading and one for distance.
