'73 B pillar removal

I have assembled the parts to convert my '73 SE to a hard top. Part of the conversion requires removal of the upper part of the B pillar.  My question is do you need to add any bracing or will the remaining pillar be strong enough?

Any pictures of that area on a hard top or inside of the quarter panel would be helpful.
