Are Seat Belts Really $300???

Need some new belts both front and rear.  Year one OEM are $300!!!  For nylon belts...  Really?  Seems super high for simple belts.  The 3 point conversion is $280.

Anyone bought a 3 point conversion?  I would think the 3 point is the way to go.  I just wonder where the retractable part goes...

Evoking

Found some 3 point on ebay for $140 and $190 respectively.

I bought my 3 point fronts from XV racing. If the 3 point fronts are what you want, be sure to get ones that have a drop down "sash" where they mount at the inner roof. The drop down segment allows the belt to pivot lower, making the belt lay on your chest, not your neck!

JR

The three points are the way to go, for safety's sake.

But heads up, you have a 68, and shoulder belts didn't come around until 69 (or late 68 I think.)

So your car may not may not have the weld nuts in the roof to hold the shoulder belt. You won't know until you drop the headliner and inspect.

There are some good threads here discussing the topic of that weld nut that would be help you alot.

Were the 69 and later shoulder belts B-body only?

Shoulder belts were federally mandated as of January 1 1968 (so several months into the 1968 model year production).

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Were they an option before 68?

Yes. And I should actually clarify that as "front shoulder belts".

The clasps look different. Also, mine have the XV  logo on them.

Until it falls off! It's just a metal plate glued on top of whatever button came with the seat belts they bought. (yes, I disassembled mine). Somewhere there's a thread where the original supplier was identified.

I may have seemed pretentious there.
I'm not a "brand name" guy. I'd take a generic if the quality was better. Price matters but quality is tops with me.
