Looking into getting a car transported out to California and was wondering who you all have used.

The internet search has led me to a lot of brokers who just want to get a finder's fee for just setting up the trip and transportation.

I'd much rather deal with the company upfront and someone reputable.

I've had good luck lately with Horseless Carriage. A friend used Intercity recently. I think you'll find that they are all within a hundred bucks or so of each other.

When I sold my 71 Charger last year the buyer used these guys. A little more expensive but worth it.

I have a buddy who is awesome. He doesn't haul cars much but equipment mostly although if he has a open spot on his trailer he will throw it on. I use him for all my cars I don't go get

Last fall I helped out getting a '71 Imperial from Seattle to Kansas City.  I was helping both the buyer and seller by storing the car in my garage for about 2 weeks while the buyer set up the transport.  The expectation was that the driver arriving would be the guy going cross country.  The guy that arrived was just an area flatbed tow truck driver.  He took the car 30 miles south to Tacoma, Wa. where the car sat in a trucking company yard for a week before it was loaded on a car hauler semi.  Two days later it was in Kansas City being dropped off in a local auto shop lot the buyer had arranged.

The car was not in pristine condition at all and a non-runner.  But a nice Charger may be different.

Moral of story: find out who is going to actually be handling your car if it is important to you.

p.s.  I talked with the dispatch lady in California about the pickup of the Imperial, so this must have been a brokered type deal.  I looked up their address on Google at the time and it was just a house out in the country.  Lost the info since...

I had a good experience with Uship.com. You put the vehicle information and a picture and people bid on the transport. I had my Charger sent from Florida to Virginia enclosed and was very pleased.

That site is very hit and miss.  I once sold a lawn tractor on craigslist, a guy out of state ending up buying it sight unseen, and told me he'd be sending a uship shipper after it.

Couple days later, a dude in a minI van pulls in saying I'm here for the lawn tractor.  LOL, he spent a half a day wrestling that thing in there, had to take the thing half apart to get it to fit, took off the deck, wheels tires, and rear axel, but he got it in there.

I guess if you use Uship, make sure you know what type of rig they're going to use, and that they're actually a business, not just a hack running around in their own personal vehicle.

Had great experience with show car services  http://www.showcartrans.com/  They hauled my car to and from Oregon.  Pickup up several other cars heading to Oregon.  Dave is the guy I've dealt with.  Tell him Tom with the Daytona sent you.  Hopefully it will work out for you.  One time they even stopped by my house when heading across country to pick up my motor and trans in a crate I bulit.  Very nice experience for me anyway.   :Twocents:

I don't know if he goes as far as California, but Rob of Two Penny Transport provides great service with an enclosed trailer. He hauled my '55 Plymouth from Michigan to Maryland for $550. He can be reached at 716-450-0250.

Totally agree I used them because the guy sent pictures of his rig and had pics of all the exotic and classics he had hauled inside.

I highly recommend Incognito Express. They are based near Killeen, Texas. The trailer in this picture was used to haul my '70 Charger and a '69 Runner.

If you care about your car - the best thing to do for it is go after it yourself with a trailer if you can't drive it home.

Next best thing is to hire someone to do that for you if you can't.

Be sure to talk directly with who is hauling your vehicle.

Get it transported directly from pick up to drop off in the same enclosed trailer.

UShip LMAO.

Here's my story. I was trying to help out a member in here (velrob) with shipping of a 71-74 B Body rear frame rail pass. side only that he wanted to buy from me. Shipping was going to be from Las Vegas, NV to Buffalo, NY. For kicks I thought I would try UShip. So I submitted the info to their website with dimensions and weight.

A few days go by and nothing. I understand it that it's not an attractive ship load but with so many OTR drivers I thought someone would be at least traveling from Cali to Buffalo, NY. You know just throw on this frame rail and really not sacrifice any major space.

Finally I get one reply from a transporter and their price was..................ready?.........................$4911.11!!!

$4911.11 for a frame rail!!! Not a whole car but a frame rail!!! Yea sure sign me up, I'll stand to lose $4800.00+ on the deal. Oh and get this, there was an additional $100.00 fee for handling!!! $5000.00 to ship a stinkin' frame rail. Why would they even submit that quote? Do they really think that I was going to say "Yea sounds like a great deal, thank you". They should be embarrassed.

For 5K I could take it over there myself for less than a quarter of that cost. I mean rent a SUV, gas cost, hotel cost and what ever else.

I still have an account on uship.
When it first started it was great.
Haulers could talk on the phone with folks before putting in a bid.

Then - it slowly became just another broker load board.
They actually solicit transport brokers http://www.uship.com/carriers/freight-broker/

So - the transport broker pays a fee to uship for finding them a load.
Then the transport broker charges a fee to whoever they place a load with.
Those fees can total 25% or more of the transport bid.
Whoever actually takes the load gets 75% or less of the money.

uship recently partnered with ebay to give automated computer quotes - sometimes if you even look at a listing
you will get an email or text or pm with a computer quote.

There is not much money in auto transport to begin with ....  :Twocents:
