A new friend (who owns a Superbird!) rescued a Fury III convertible from ultimate ruin at the hands of an auto salvage yard.
When it was dropped off by the owner, he was called by his cousin who alerted him to the latest interesting arrival.
He dragged it home, just to save it.
It sat in his barn for the next three years, then finally this winter he was forced to shove it outside for the first time.
Which prompted his email to me: "Interested in a Fury convertible?"
My scrounger ears perked right up of course. I played it cool for awhile, then finally took the hour long drive to go see it.
Its buried in a snow bank, but has a plastic tarp over it at least. Inspection sticker and plates both say 1975. Its been sitting a long time!
After digging the foot of snow off the car, I popped the hood and took a look at the 383 within. The valve covers are rusted out, as is the underside of the hood. But it's complete.
The interior is all there too, but seems to be ruined from age, if anything.
The trunk is opened, and you can see the Gas tank is missing, which is apparent as I gaze at the ground where the trunk metal was.
Opening the doors, I was surprised that they didn't drop at all. Floor seems pretty solid too. Asking price is $800, which is a bit stiff considering, but I'll sell a few car parts to pay for it post-haste.
Its color is TT1, medium copper poly.
So, I might be deluding myself to think it has value...only 4500 like it were made. The outside of the car is in very good shape.
I believe that the years of sitting in what I can only assume to be a damp garage has caused it to crumble from the inside out.
I think I can fix it... but its going to take a parts car.
Fortunately, I found a free 1967 Fury III two door hardtop. That bodes well!
