The Hemi always gets all the credit.     What should also be recognized is that Darlington was the first race with the new 1964 1/2 suspension package.    When they won both races at Daytona in '64, it was on brute horsepower.    On shorter tracks, the handling wasn't very good.   And the early 1964 cars themselves were not very good.  In some cases, the cars being built to race actually had less torsional rigidity than their street counterparts.   But the 64.5 suspension pieces were the start of getting optimum geometry into the cars.    The parts were hand carried to Darlington and installed on select cars.
