1968 Charger Fuel Filler Neck Tube installation

We just installed a new gas tank into our 1968 Charger.  We are having a difficult time inserting the fuel filler neck tube into the tank hole.  The rummer gasket is so tight we can't get the tube to even start penetrating past it.  What the heck are we doing wrong?

I changed my tank last year. I just kept rocking it and pushing down on it. Took me awhile but got it in. Some say spray a tad of WD40 but I did not want to use anything that mixes with gas.

Thanks.  I guess we will have to push and rock a little harder and longer.

Spray a tad on the seal and neck first and then rock it in. Continue to spray a tad while pushing in.

I have had mine out lately when I was installing a new vent line and I remember using some emery cloth on the filler tube and some regular grease on the grommet.

I struggled with this as well when restoring my '68 Charger.  Part of the problem is the awkward angle inside the trunk as well as lack of help, me working alone.  What I did was use a ratchet strap around the tube and the other end through the opening in the trunk hooking the frame, tightened as much as possible.  This gave the extra force needed when I started pushing and twisting again.  I felt like I was going to fall over struggling with this, but this trick worked for me.
