Hi guys,

Just looking for some help establishing market value. I've got a 68 383 with 906 heads I just pulled from my Charger (building a 440 for it). The motor ran amazingly. Didn't burn oil, just needs some gaskets and paint. No accessories, but all the tin and an old Edelbrock Streetmaster intake manifold. What's it worth? I'm in Canada, and have seen them go for around $2000 CDN, which is about $1500 U.S.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

KR

You may as well be asking "what is a good price for the stuff insides this cardboard box?".

What are the build specs? Does it have 10k or 100k miles on it?

Honestly, it depends on your area. I have one in similar condition that I paid $200 for. Buuuut, around here no one wants a small block or 383 so the only thing worth any money at all is a 440 or Hemi - and 440 are typically cheaper than what you listed. On either coast, prices are usually more than double what I see.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Problem is I don't know what's in it. It's not radical at all...mild, stock like sound. I've put about 2000 miles on it, but unsure of how many it had before I got it.

I am in Ontario
I bought a whole car this spring with a good running 383 in it and the guy drove it 45 minutes to my house to deliver it and only paid $1500 for the it
Pulled the motor and put in my 69 Charger and kept the wheels and sold what was left
Only got $500 in my motor

I have a 68 383 all torn apart (when I got it) and priced out a ring and bearing gasket rebuild kit and it was going to be over $1000

Think the only person that would want your motor for big bucks would be the one that owns the Charger it came out of originally other wise it is closer to $500

Time and place is everything. I just got 2 383s, a 400 and a 413 for free.

What do you mean by "amazingly"?

I mean ran perfectly. No misses, no smoke, smooth. Extremely reliable.

With all the unknowns, maybe $750 US if it's clean and an HP engine. Who knows - it could have 50k miles and a .60 overbore. Its hard to sell 383's anymore. The last one I sold was a nice running 71 - I had re-gasketed and painted it. The best I could get was $500.
