Word of caution on steering box fittings

So this past weekend I fired up my car for the first time, all went well except for a few fluid leaks which were easy fixes. The one that I fought was on my power steering box, the high pressure fitting was the wrong size for the saginaw style hose so I bought a brand new fitting from a vendor, it came with a washer with the o-ring seal built into it. THROW that thing away as far as you can and install a copper washer. I fought that POS for quite a while, loosening and tightening the fitting thinking I must have cocked the hose wrong or didnt have it tight enough. No matter what I tried as soon as the wheel turned all the way in either direction it would spray fluid straight up onto the exhaust manifold and run down all over the box and drip on the floor. So, if you ever come across this, save yourself the hassle and the mess and take it off and install a copper washer. No leaks now that I did that.

The washer I received with the fitting did not look like that. Looked like the one below. It would not seal, only thing I can think of is the fitting did not have enough of a sealing surface to completely seal the rubber portion of it
