Preventing fender tag theft

Never put mine back on.   I tape a "pencil rub" on the fender when I care if someone cares.

I love Chargers, numbers, and originality.  But I'm glad to see a repro tag, rivets, or some other means more secure than factory screws holding the tag on.

As for the numbers, I like seeing what originally the factory built.  Then I look the car over to see what has been changed, just out of curiosity.  Ma Mopar put a tag on the cars so they're part of the lore.  I don't care if you replaced your green interior with black and the 318 with a 440.  To me it can all be a starting point for a conversation on what was done to the car.

my dad kept getting the radio stolen out of his 68 z28 when he was 20. so one night he parked the car in the lawn, flooded the grass,  ran a 220v cord out to the car and attached one leed to the body, the other in the wet grass. said he heard something that night and burnt skin on his door handle. lol

   Who makes a repro tag and what does it cost ? Mine is so fragile with rust I have it locked away. I have one from a car I scraped years ago I should paint and put on for amusement.

Park your Charger at the show, pop the hood, leave the area within close range, double back and approach your own car as if you were a spectator. And then just watch the idiot's looks on their faces upon reading your gag tag.

I would even secure the gimmick tag as some one would probably would want to steal that one as well.

If you tried that in this day and age, you'd be arrested, sued and have the ACLU and various other govt agencies up your ass in an instant..... It would be awesome to do it though

Few are.  The trick is not to get judgmental about it.

If you have a super nice car (or just care about your car), I wouldn't advise leaving it alone at a show/cruise-in for a multitude of reasons besides a fender tag. Yes, that requires someone to watch your car while you look around. That being said, I like the idea of a repro fender tag with the original put up. I keep my originals with my build sheet in a fire safe. Mainly because they've been off the cars for years while doing research for the restoration's.  

I love looking at fender tags at shows and seeing the options the car came with and the build date. I like to see if it was an ordered car. I don't really care if the guy restored it to the tag, but I do get a kick out of how many Red and Black cars I see that were originally Green. As the owner of an F3 car that's been told it's ugly since 1982, I can understand why someone might want a different color. I don't give them any flak about it. When accosted that I should change my car's color or that it's ugly, I usually respond something like, Dodge didn't ask me what color to paint it in 1969, or I would have advised different. However, since they didn't, it'll stay the color it is.
