E5 Charger

I've decoded the fender tag, on my 1974 Charger, except for the top line that is unique to Lynch Road.

I know that the first two numbers are the Gate and Line Sequence numbers, but can't find anything on the next two. I believe it's the engine, transmission and maybe brakes. Does anyone have GG's White Book?

24= gate number
125= base number

Both are related to producing the body in white

164470= body sequence number = 64,470 body produced

511= engine assembly code =  74 B Body 318-2bbl,with automatic transmission and A/C.

182 = axle assembly code = You can reverse engineer this one too. 74 B body, with (what gears) and (likely not sure grip) and (size of brake drums). I'm guessing it is an 8.25 with 2.71 gears an no Suregrip)

862= transmission number = 3681862 = 1974 BC body automatic behind a 318 or 360-2 bbl.

If you have your broadcast sheet, you'll find the same codes on line four under ENGINE, TRANS and AXLE

I don't have the broadcast sheet, so only have the tag to research.
The 511 code is correct except my car doesn't have A/C ( I wish it did).
The axle is a 8.75 with a tag that says 2.76. No Suregrip.
The transmission is a 727.

I always thought it a bit odd to have a 727 and 8.75 in a 318 car. Would this be a bit of a rare combo?

Does your car code for H51 on the tag?

No H51. So no air conditioning. Thanks for your help with this.

So you have the engine code but no A/C.....interesting. Can you post a picture of the tag to compare to the one I posted?

Here it is.

There is also a second tag with an upside down F, H, and W. The is also another letter I can't read. I'll have to try stripping the paint off of it to see if that helps. As far as I know, these are inspection marks.

Yes 2nd tag is inspection stamps.

Ok, I don't know much about the top line other than what I decoded on mine but isn't D32 the code for HD trans (727) and D34 the 904? Or is it different from '71?

On all of the decoders I've used D34 just comes up Standard Duty Automatic Transmission. (D31 comes up as the 904) As far as I understand the Lynch Road tags, the last three numbers at the top right are the last three numbers of the transmission ID number. #3681862 is a Standard Duty 727. I haven't checked the numbers on my transmission, but I know it has the 727 fluid pan.

71 SE3834V

Yeah now that you mention it D34, standard 727 was used on the small blocks and I think the 2 bbl 383/400's. The HD 727, D32 was used on the HP 4bbl 383/400 & 440.

Top line # was different in '71. Where yours is a 3 then a 6 digit number for engine & trans mine is a 3 digit for engine/ trans (420 = 383 4bbl, auto w/ac) and a 3 digit # for the axle (042 = 3.23, open, 8.75, 10" drum).
Interesting how they changed it from year to year.
