While removing the old bearings off my axles I think I may have ruined them. One Im sure is toast as when I was drilling the collar to split it I went to far and drilled into the shaft itself  ::) . The other one I nicked a few times with the cutoff tool while cutting the bearing. Ill post the pics when I get home for a ggod laugh. But for now was wondering besides other b bodies where else can I source a used set from. Mine where off a 68 charger with 741 open diff with 2.76 rear. My new set up is a 489 case 3.93 and power lok. Not building a race car, but do plan for a big block and 4 speed.

Tell me doc is it bad? :'(

TommyGun

That will be fine in my opinion.  Its not a bearing surface just where the race sits.

that axle will be ok, it is not ruined.

The 4 speed and sticky tires will finish those axles far worse then your drill bit did.

mAdMoPaR

Really? I thought for sure they were toast since I was going with sealed bearing instead of the old tapered style. No stickies for me thats for sure but cant resist a 4 speed.

John_Kunkel

The seal surface inboard of the bearing and collar is the only surface that needs to be pristine. If you're going to Greens (ugh!) you don't even have to worry about the seal surface.

FWIW, the '68-'70 axle shafts are all by themselves, no interchange.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Lol didn't want to mention the green bearing in case of a backlash. But its good info, thank you gents!

The bearings is really a matter of preference. There is nothing wrong with the stock sethp. I have the "green" bearings in mine with no issues. I run them because i run a spool. No side load issues. If you run greens, get the snapring style, not the ones that are one peice.
