The smell of enamel just takes me back to whe I was very small. Remembering it from when my Dad was painting cars. I also love the smell of 3m super duty rubbing compound.....

I got it painted today. It was a bit breezy but 72 degrees so it was a good time!

The pictures show it to be more red than it really is. I think the color is perfect!

I had a little bee fall into the intake manifold paint and hadn't noticed. He didn't live to tell. I'll have to do a bit of a touch up on that spot but oh well, it's an engine, not a door skin.   ;)

Despite degreasing this thing seventeen times, I still had a bit of contaminants around the water neck and on the water pump. There's a few pin pricks where the paint didn't grab. They are much smaller than the average fish eyes though so they'll be very easy to touch up. Everything else looks very good!

The Shopline paint is not known for covering very well, and orange usually is not the best covering color either, so I misted the color until I got it all covered. I then sprayed two wet coats to get that nice thick enamel look. I'm not sure I can still read the stamp marks on the front ID pad.

I didn't get the valve covers done so I bolted up a '71 set I had just to protect the heads. They are pitted and need a lot of prep before they're worthy of top coat but they work as a masking tool!   :2thumbs:

Either I find another set of '69 covers or I get the black wrinkle finish Mopar Performance covers to match the air cleaner I have. I may just do the latter, I do like that look.
