Gotta join a 'club' for beers, if they ask where you're from, always tell them from here. I'm going to start looking there myself within the next ten years.

Bob,

I lived on the NC coast for a number of years and have been all over SC and GA beaches before and since (was in MB a couple of months ago). It really depends on what you're looking for. If you want beautiful beaches, with a "homey" feel, MB is probably not for you. I can tell you that there are far better places to settle that will give you the best of beach living, without fighting tourists. MB and surrounding areas do have advantages, like shopping (if you're married) and a good car show scene.

Do you intended to retire, retire? Meaning, kick back and chill or do will you be looking for a P/T job to make some scratch and occupy time? Depending on your skill set, MB may offer more options for you. I too will look to settle on the coast, if I can make it long enough without kicking out. It will be somewhere along Rt 17 in NC, between Sneads Ferry and Wilmington.

Best of luck and congrats on being able to retire. It's becoming more of a rarity these days.

Regards,
John

Thanks for the insight John. We want the winters in SC and the summers head north. We can get a very nice condo for about 7k for 5 months and not have to worry about the HOA.
