OK, so I'm gonna put the '70 up on ebay and I'm sure there's some people here that have sold their cars as well. since we're talking some serious $$$ what suggestions, tips or things I should be careful of?

Thanks in advance!

Just post as much information and pictures about the car as you possibly can.  I'd also be on the lookout for low feedback bidders that will waste your time by never sealing the deal.  Have you ever sold on eBay before?

I've sold maybe a dozen cars and motorcycles on ebay, and fortunately have not had any issues.

Good honest description of course, lots of good pictures. If you can take a video and post it on you tube, do it. Ebay may not let you link directly to the video, but in the description of your listing you could tell people the title of the video so they can find it.

If you don't have good feedback yourself on ebay, it could be a flag for buyers. So be prepared to talk to some folks on the phone....in length.
I've always had good buyers and worked with them on holding stuff until they can get shipping arranged etc.

Good Luck!

Hey if not in a big hurry- I have also had good luck selling at  cars-on-line.com   - something like $25 for an ad until it sells. And a car like yours will sell, no doubt.

Ebay of course will give you the largest audience but anyone looking for a 70 charger will find just about anywhere you place it.

Thx...good idea about Video!. I have had reasonable experience selling on ebay, have even sold my '88 4 runner but figure when price get over $20K it's a little different and might start hearing from well trained scammers or at least time wasters. ::)

I haven't done it myself- but I believe there is a way to block out people with low or negative feedback.   :scratchchin:

I have sold two in the past and both were decent transactions with no pitfalls.

First, I would limit buyers in my ebay profile....ratings, newbies, etc..

Have a clear concise ad with the appropriate car seller lingo....list all issues if any, tons of pictures etc.

Place a non refundable deposit.  I would only accept wire transactions, with sufficient time to clear.  Also, on your end open an account at your bank that is not linked to your other accounts to accept the wire....once the funds dump, move them into your regular account.

Expect a lot of nonsense requests and weed through them...best of luck!

I sold my green 70 this spring on ebay

You will get guys from all over the world asking and bidding on it

Make sure you spell out the money part well in the ad
No refunds
$500 deposit within 24 hours of auction closing and balance due within 7 days
That way you will get some cash up front and if they get cold feet you got something for your troubles
Also say all funds must clear your bank before car leaves your property (international stuff takes longer)
More than likely you will have to store it for a short time till trucking can be arranged so have some idea how long you are willing to do that after you have the cash
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

More good tips guys thx!

is this just so they don't get mixed up or could a "bad" deposit affect my account?

It is to protect you and your funds.....So you are not out of a car and the cash paid!

You'll have to deal with the matter of posting the VIN.  Need to decide if you're comfortable doing so, or just supplying it to those who ask.

I believe it adds to the quality/credibility of the seller, shows good intent.  But I know there are plenty of folks who will scream about scammers, fraud, VIN thieves, etc., and say that you should never give up the VIN.

You need to make a decision on the matter.  I say post the VIN as well as the fender tag, and broadcast sheet.

I've always taken the non refundable deposit through paypal. You acct is already protected there and then after that you can decide how to get the rest of the fund with the owner.

For the US I require a certified bank check or US postal money order. Or cash-money of course.

My last charger I sold, the guy handed me a giant wad of cash when he came to get the car. He was so excited to have the car, that he talked the whole time I was trying to count the money.  :icon_smile_big:

Dang, sorry to hear your selling your '70. I got a lot of good info from your 4 sp conversion thread.
Sounds like you already have your mind made up but my thoughts is sell the 72 instead!  Or don't sell anything at all, replacing a car like that will be a lot harder then it will be to get rid of it.

Don't forget to add the words"BARN FIND" ::)

Thanks for the tips guys but had a change of heart and not selling. While I was putting together a list of the little things to fix before sale I thought,"it will be near perfect then, why would I get rid if it!"

There will be a time to sell of course, just not right now...I do appreciate all the tips and will use them when the time come, especially the sexy chick!
