This is an approximately five minute video on actions to take, if you find yourself or your family finds itself in an Active Shooter situation. I believe in light of recent events domestically and internationally, you might find it useful. Unfortunately in these active shooter situations, folks find themselves completely unprepared for the unthinkable. Videos like this are short, but contain a strong message that is easily absorbed.

They forgot one alternative....SHOOT BACK.

You'll notice that the most recent mass shooting was in a "gun free zone". Shooter knew he wouldn't find any threats there.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Yup.  Can't remember the last time a shooter walked into a police station to start a gun battle...

...or into a gun show.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

They always seem to "forget" that one. Running and screaming seems to be the only alternative when decent people are disarmed by gun free zones. Murderers don't seem to care much about laws, starting with the one against murder.

I never seem to find a govt instructional video for "if you find yourself trapped in an Orwellian unconstitutional govt surveillance nightmare."

We're in this scenario right now.  It scares me far more than the active shooters.

That was pure fantasy; the sign on the door said that no guns were allowed. We all know that more gun free zones are what is needed.

I was hired once by a company to teach those sorts of things to their staff. I so badly wanted to just say "If we had concealed carry in Canada this would be a totally different kind of course" but I had to be "professional".

One common part of these shootings is that they are -all- suicide for the perp.

It's a sick one persons game of -catch me- and how many they can kill before someone with a GUN kills them. :brickwall:

First Responders and others that follow do what is needed with proper force but the sick game has already played out by that time.

That kid who shot up the black church last summer didn't get a scratch on him.

The cops reportedly took him to Hardee's on the way to jail.

YOU are the first responder. Cops, EMS, etc... Are second.   :2thumbs:

don't fall for being a victim before the fight has even started. Learning to shoot is one thing, but getting some proper force on force, and situational training is massive. The goal is not to get shot in the face, and try to get out of a situation where you might have to shoot someone. The more you are in these situations (training or not) the wider your eyesight remains as you solve the issue at hand. Practice the use of OODA loop manipulation, and know what you are up against. 80% of people who are shot with a handgun survive.
JUNKTRAVELER: all I've seen in this thread is a bunch of bullies and 3 guys that actually give a crap.

JR

I was at work last summer when a shooting broke out. (I work for an auto manufacturing plant.)

An employee with mental problems shot a guy 100 feet or so away from me. Came in with the intention of shooting three specific people. After he shot the first guy, everyone close by took off running. Including the other two intended victims.

Those of us who only heard the bang assumed a pipe had burst or a rack had fallen over, and didnt respond right away. Who expects a shooting in their own workplace?

I (along with the crowd) went out the main door and waited just outside with the crowd.

I learned soon after NEVER do that, because the shooter walked out that same door, gun in hand, a few minutes later. So of course a huge group of us take off running like hell, trapped inside the big fence, with no cover and the only option is to run down a wide open road for 50 yards or so until we could get cover.

The worst part was having no idea if he was going to start shooting us in the back, and not being able to stop and look because all you want to do is put distance between you and the gunman, and if you stop to look you just made yourself an easier target.

Luckily,  he didnt shoot anymore once he got outside. He could have picked any of us off easily. He sat down and waited for the cops, peacefully.

What I learned thru that experience was:

Dont run out the most used exit. People are creatures of habit, and theres a good chance the shooter will come thru there too.

Dont stop until youve put LOTS of distance and cover between you and the location. I couldnt run to my car and leave because I made the mistake of leaving my car keys in my locker. Which brings me to my next point,

Spare car key! I leave mine under the floor mat now incase that happens again. I drive a beater Toyota to work so im not worried about theft.

Cops will form a perimeter, and block the roads after the shooting, so there's a good chance youll get stuck there for hours if you do make it out of the parking lot.

People who fantasize about a shootout at the OK corral,  always miss a few things.

There are plenty of jobs out there that strictly prohibit carrying firearms. Mine included. You should have other plans beyond SHOOT BACK! WOO, MURICA!!!!

Even if you are armed, theres going to be people scattering like cockroaches. Are you confident you can land every shot in the guy shooting at you without hitting any innocent people running behind him? Because its known that even expert's shooters accuracy degrades under stress. Are you ok with one of your missed shots landing in the skull of someone else running away? Thats the risk you take under a situation like that.

That experience taught me to pay more attention to my surroundings,  its easy to get comfortable and let your guard down in a place you've worked at, or been to for years. Ill never make that mistake again.

Hope this helps someone.

Bought him food from Burger King. The only place they took him was jail.

Here is the best summary I could find...and it aligns with news released here in the "Low Country" of S.C. and GA.
