I know from the factory this was painted.  I know they make a decal.  Has anyone applied the decal for 72 , it looks like it would be difficult to apply.  Does anyone know the dimensions for painting the black on?

I am looking also looking for a decal or painting dimensions for my 1974 with the power bulge hood.  I believe that they are different than the 72.  The 74 should have the cut out.  If anyone can provide a manufacture's name and contact information for the decal or template for my 74, I would be grateful.

Thanks...........

71 and 72 decals are available at phoenixgraphix. 72 without cut outs. It could be modified to make it looks like a 73/74 I think. would be a good start with it.

I have been looking for a decal for some time now and have been unsuccessful.  The only one that I could find, as mentioned above, was the top hood black out available from Phoenix,  but it is without cutouts.  The main difference is the 71-72 only covers the top portion of the bubble only and does not extend down the sides - so the sides are painted the same colour of the car.  I don't believe the 71 or 72 can be modified to work, unless you are looking for a different look.  If I find anything, including a template that can be used for painting I will let you know, and hopefully appreciate the same if you come across one - good luck.

Hi thanx for all the replies.  I think phoenix is actually different for the 72 then 71. I am under the impression that the 72 covers the sides of the bulge not like the 71 that is only on the top.  There web site shows it that way anyway.  I was afraid of tring to get a decal to lay down that wraps over the sides of the bulge.  I will call phoenix and make sure they are different. Thanks Garry

Is this ´72..?

Nacho-RT74

no, that's a 71 decal on to a 73 bulged hood...

72 covers all the bulge hood, 71 just on top.

compare with the 72 red rallye I posted

hi

Does anyone have a picture of a 72 looking down on it, like the purple hood with the 71 blackout above?  I think my body shop could do it if i had a picture looking down on the hood like that one.  Also does any one know how wide the pin stripe is around the blackout?  Thanks Garry

The '72 was painted on from the factory. I purchased a phoniex graphix hood decal that was supposed to be for a '72. I  installed it then after looking at it thought...."Holy Smokes! it's the wrong one!!" I was less then pleased and called to complain. I trust they aren't still advertising for '72 decalsl   :P

After I looked at it though I thought it looked pretty good and it would be a nightmare to paint on, not completely original but close enough, and besides, I was screwed..it's ON and isn't coming off. If I get some "expert" at a show telling me "that's a '71" I tell them it's an early build car with left over '71 graphics and they don;'t know what their talking about.

The quality of the decal is good but they recommend using some vynal protectant stuff on it, I did and it streaked like crazy...looked awful, so I just use wax and kep it out of the sun.

Mopar Action or Mopar Muscle had a small artile devoted to the diamentions of painting on the black out about 2 years ago perhaps someone here can check their archives

Don't forget your door vents and rear black out!

Wow

Something is wrong, i called them specifically and asked them if the 72 wrapped around and they said it did. And there picture on line shows a red one with the proper sticker.  I have just came to the conclusion I would just paint mine.  I am just looking advice on layout and pinstripe width,  I would be calling Phoenix if it were me.  Good Luck Garry

I went thru the same exercise, looked at the website and called to confirm, and then ordered the blackout.  When it showed up, it was for the 71 and when followed back up with them they confirmed that the web was incorrect and that they do not have one availalbe.  I was also told they have been unable to find a template and that is why they do not have one - which makes sense because the originals were painted on.  Good Luck and let us know how your paint blackout ends up.

I recall this coming up awhile back and then saw a small blurb in a magazine - so I started digging. The June 05 Mopar Action mag has the factory tech bulletin in the Resto Topics section on pg. 14. Gives the exact details on the stencil - I don't think I could tape it based on it though.

I take a pic later this week and try to post it - in the mean time, from one of our global members:
