The solution for my transmission problem. A Passon 855. It is rated for 700 ft lbs. As a bonus, it has overdrive......Now waiting for the A body and B body to come out.... Wow this thing is really nice!!!

Very nice Brian !  :drool5:

Hopefully those turn out to be stronger than the old cast iron 18 spline boxes !  :yesnod:

Looking forward to the drive report.  :icon_smile_cool:

What clutch are you planning to go with ?

Hey Ron!

I use a Mcleod dual disc clutch in all of the cars. IT is the only clutch that will last or hold up. A couple of them are over 15 years old, with nothing done to them...

Put one in, and drove the car about 50 miles today. All I can say is WOW!! First, it just slid in, just like it was a regular 833. It was like it was made for the car. Everything bolted up perfectly.

Driving impression:

So so smooth. No vibration. No noise. Shifts like a dream! Throws are nice and short. Shifts much nicer than any 833 I have ever shifted. And the overdrive! It makes it like a totally different car. The way it was before, I would drive about 2 hours, and be done. The noise and vibration just wore me out. I would be at 3000 rpm,s, just to cruise at 60 mph. That gets old quick. Now, about 1900-2000 rpm,s, at 60.

In my application, i think in time it might pay for itself. Less $9.00 gal race gas. Easier on my motor, especially valve springs.

After I get it broke-in, I will start to lean on it. I will report back then. Cant wait for the other cars to get theirs! I'm sure I will be driving my cars a lot more now....

I'm on the list. I'm not sure how close to the top I am. I can't wait to throw an overdrive in the car!

If they charged twice as much it would still be worth it.  Roaring at 3K RPMS just to cruise to a car show is annoying...

$6200 for me to get everything to convert my bench seat auto into just the 4 speed version.  Much more for the 855.  I'm having a hard time justifying it.

Wow, that is pricey.  But....I could see myself saving up for a 'mod like that.  After running my 90's muscle cars at a lazy 1800 RPM @ 70 mph there's no turning back...

It's right at $5000 for what's pictured here:

I inquired about one a year or so ago and told the wait was at least a year. Love to have one but $5000 is a big chunk of change. Looks really nice though. :2thumbs:

adding a blower is a big chunk of change also...... I know you spent more than 5k for that alone for all its pieces.

The wait used to be 2.5 years, but I read on another forum he has a new person making some gears now.

Wouldn't you have to make sure you have the proper crank too?  Nevertheless, I'd opt for the T56 also...

I wouldn't really want a 6spd on a street cruiser.

IMO modern sports cars have too many (and too tightly-spaced) gears.  The factories are doing it to impress Car & Driver's 0-60 stopwatches and the EPA's rigged gas mileage testing, all using modern motors with brief peaky powerbands.

If overall driving enjoyment was their #1 priority then I doubt they would have gone beyond 4-5 gears, with the gear spacing on the broader side.  Broader/flatter powerbands on the motors too.
