Brake Light Switch

I was browsing Google images for a 1973 Dodge Charger brake light switch and among the several pics that came up I came across this one.

A sneaky option on some highway patrol cruisers. The first thing a speeder does when passed by a cruiser is look in rear view to see if the cruisers brakes light up, the new speeder slows. If no brake lights are  seen,speeder thinks cruiser didn't see him. The truth is cruiser did brake, makes U turn and sneaks up behind  offender. Busted, thanks to a brake light switch. lol

 I believe that's a ole moonshine runners trick ,  to be able to turn the brake lights off  , imagine the police chasing a runner down a dark country road & the guy in front switches his brake lights off , just as his about to entre a sharp curve / bend  etc

My version of this back in the day.... a switch to activate the Brake lights when not applying the brakes.
This is the story, during those crazy road race incidents, which included curves, if the other guy was behind me and pushing me to get me to overdrive myself, going in to a curve, I would hit this "horn button" located on the dash panel in front of my right knee. My Brakes lights would light up and hopefully the guy on my ass would panic and hit his Brakes and slow down for a split second and I just kept in the throttle, I'd gain some space between us.

When I knew my brake lights were not working and a cop was behind me I would turn on the running lights while braking.

As a young poor car guy in the seventies paying attention to things like this was common and bought me extra miles but not without flaws.  I got a ticket once for my license plate light not working --in the day time--
