I love my redline radials I bought from Diamond Back Classics over ten years ago.  Although they have plenty of tread left, I don't trust them anymore due to age.  I run 235/60/15 up front and 275/60/15 out back.  Diamond Back now offers the Nitto 555 in a redline 275/60/15.  The thought of a redline drag radial intrigues me, but as pricy as they are I'm concerned that they would be toast within a season or two.  I may or may not get back to the track, but like the thought that if I do, I could get a decent 60ft time with these.  In general I put maybe a couple of thousand miles on the car a year with only a few smoky acceleration events.  Anybody have experience with these tires based upon light usage as described?

Yep, time to upgrade. Tire shops around here won't even mount tires over ten years old......

do they come in 17 inch sizes?  I like the redline and magnum 500 look, and I have 17 inch magnums. the 555 in itself isn't exactly a drag radial, the 555R is a drag radial.  the 555 is an all season medium compound tire that I love how they feel, I have nitto's on the 17 inch rims now, but may have to replace them before I get it on road.  Not sure when I got the rims and tires last time, at least 5 years ago.
69 RT/SE Y3 cream yellow w/tan vinyl top and black r/t stripe. non matching 440/375, 3:23, Column shift auto w/buddy seat, tan interior, am/fm w/fr to back fade, Now wears 17" magnum 500 rims and Nitto tires. Fresh repaint, new interior, new wheels and tires.

You guys and your car's are way too valuable to be riding on aged rubber.  I hope you get new tires soon...

HPP

If they are toast in a season or two, then you will always have fresh rubber under the car.

Realistically, rubber is a consumable, much like gasoline. We don't build these cars for their stellar mileage. Don't expect a decade of use out of a set of tires.

They do have plenty of options for 17" wheels.  Go to their website......

After some research, the picture on their website of the Nitto "drag radial" is definitely of a 555r.  They must have left the 'r' off for some reason, but I will certainly make sure before ordering.  The reviews I've found on line are all positive, including tread wear......

I have the Nitto 555r radials on my Charger (not redlines) and they are an awesome tire when it is dry. They are very sticky and actually fairly quiet on the road.  If you get caught out in the rain, they are VERY slippery!  My Charger will never intentionally see rain again but, if you drive yours when there is a possibility of rain and get caught out in it, be very careful!

I run them out back in 275X60X15 and it is plenty of tire for me. YMMV.

From what I hear the 555r is a sticky tire under the right conditions but it'll wear fast. If you don't drive your car a ton then they will still last many years though. I run the 555 (non r) wet and dry and I like them.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Its a soft compound, hence the traction. They will wear fast compared to a bfg radial ta, but comparable to other drag radials. To put an exact mileage on them is hard. Depends on your driving habits. The more spirited, the quicker they go. I have mt et street drag radials with about 3000 miles on them and they pretty well done, but they served their purpose and i have no complaints. You dont buy a drag tire for mileage. You buy it to hook.
