I found a 73 dart sport yesterday. Great body decent interior. 383 auto. He says it has a broken piston. I can get it for pretty cheap. What would this car be worth. As is or if  I got it running. Sorry, no pics, but body is real good paint is decent. A good buffing and would look real nice. 14 inch Cragars.

Thanks, Andy

If it has a 383 then it is an owner swap. thats a fact. and if its an owner swap and has problems, well it can't be worth much. the 73 darts are kinda ugly. if it has the 383 then you know that the owner has messed with the car, and depanding on the quality of the work done to the car it's ether in better condition then if it would have sat untuched for 30 years, or it could be a rats nest of patch jobs. i'm very wary about buying any car that the owner has worked on. but then agian, if its a car you want (are in love with) and your willing to put up with its problems then it doesn't matter.

It's just something I stumbled upon. I've only seen the car and haven't spoken to the actual owner yet. Hopefully this evening. I'll let everyone know tomorrow what's up with it.

Thanks guys the price I got was $400. I thought it was good. I may grab it just to tinker on and make a driver out of.

Get it, the best way to learn about cars is to get a "beater" thats what some older guy told me.

That's what I thought. I may snag a cheap 318 and tranny for it and then use the 383 to build my first motor.

So I am gonna guess it has a 440 :icon_smile_big: I would say he should be able to get 13's out of the dart with a mild rebuild of a 383..what do you think?

My guess is your ride is in the low 12's

BTW welcome newbie!

Alright guys......First, I was too late on the dart. It had been sold, just not picked up yet. Would have been a good deal though. It was a 74 /6 car with the 383 added and some goodies. Story goes the previous owner went drag racing without a tach and ended up blowing the bottom out of two cylinders. present owner just yanked a few parts and resold it. It's still got a newer tranny with shift kit and B&M ratchet shifter and  sure grip rear in it. He even said he had another 383 he would have thrown in.

    Bummer.
