On my 99 300M, when I turn the wheel from either end, I get a clunking noise. Or as like a 4 wheel drive does when turning and you are accelerating and you get that feedback. Nothing going straight or  small turns.  It just knocks when the wheel is turned all the way left or right and starting to accelerate.  Tie rod ends?

sounds like a CV (constant velocity ) joint to me.
easy fix if that is it, just get a new axle from the auto parts store.

If you take your car to a parking lot from a stop and turn the wheel full lock to one side then accelerate you will usually here a " click click click" noise. which is a tell tail sign of an excessively worn CV joint.

Best of luck!  :2thumbs:
There are few problems in life that cannot be solved with C-4.
