Clunking gears, with pics.

'69 8-3/4, 489 case Sure-Grip, cone clutch.  The gears would clunk going back and forth from reverse and drive.  They would also whine slightly at speed.  There's more backlash than I would want, but here's the real problem.

The spider gear shaft is not in the hole.  You can see part of the spider gear through the hole.



Here's one side of the carrier where the shaft should be held in place by.



I would think it would look the same way on the other side, but the shaft has somehow rotated in that direction.

I'd be interested to see what the inside looks like...never seen a cross pin snap like that.
