I love the old movies but there is no way to do anything more with it.  Lots of reasons.

MJF's condition with Parkinson's.  Everyone's age.  

America's culture & deep-seated values/attitudes have changed less in the last 30 years compared to the huge 1950s-80s gap.  

The real 2015 looks nothing like the fictional 2015 in BTTF#2.  


Writers can dream up excuses for anything but it only distracts from the problems.  More movies could always be done but I doubt they could ever live up & belong next to the old ones.

Wouldn't put it past Hollywierd to try a reboot; Lord knows they've tried it on many other franchises.  They should make the time machine a 2nd Gen Charger, this time...

I don't like comedies at all, but IMO that was a funny movie. The girls were hot, too.  Remember the one in the hot tub scene?

I remember reading somewhere that the person who owns the rights to the movie stated there would not be another one and no reboots done either?

Watched a special on the History Channel tonight about the film. They mentioned that Nike is actually working on a self-tying shoe similar to those seen in the movie. Now that would be handy for us folks who are getting to old to bend down to tie our shoes all the time.

Zemeckis made sure no reboot or follow up would be made, and that's how I like it.  Preserve the legacy and don't screw it up.  There's countless stories to be told, I don't see why this one has to be retold.

Now where's my flying Delorean!

Sad that with all the talented writers they have in Hollywood, that they seem to have a need to reboot all the old favorites...and in most cases they do so badly......I don't see how they could improve on the originals, so just leave them alone....

The big studios are in it for the money.  Reboots/sequels/prequels are less of a risk than a new show.


Option #1 -

A studio makes a cheap forgettable comedy about a handful of people lost in the wilderness.  

The movie turns out lame.  They can't market it very well.  The public doesn't respond.  It makes $20 million.  


Option #2 -  

The studio takes that same project (still cheap & forgettable) and dresses it up as a remake of Gilligan's Island.    

The movie still turns out lame.  It's not even very faithful to the original Gilligan because the director had never wanted to make a Gilligan movie in the first place.  But the studio can market it successfully.  Much of the public, including the old TV show's fans, will at least give it a shot.  Public opinion decides it was weak, but people don't rate it quite as bad as they would have rated it without the Gilligan label.  It makes $100 million.  Then it gets a sequel 3 years later.

They already made them. The first set was given to Michael J Fox.

They (Hollywood) have already done things three times over. There are no talented writers in Hollywood. But there are a lot of talented authors out there in the world. Its just not cost effective to try and make up a story out of a great book without changing the whole story

The talented writers are there.  The studio demand for new projects is not.  They want known properties for reasons I said above.


Producers have a habit of changing writers each time they don't like a draft.  They end up getting four 1st-drafts instead of a 4th-draft from anyone.  And each new writer has a financial incentive to rewrite more of the story for royalty reasons.  Sometimes perfectly good writing gets altered just for the sake of altering it. 


Lots of factors mess up scripts.
