Well, yesterday was a disaster. Around 5500 RPMs on pull #4 a u joint let loose, the end result is what used to resemble a long shaft and a crack straight through the transmission housing. Motor appears to be fine and the driveshaft loop saved everything else, might be the best $200.00 I've ever spent. (IF you do not have one on your car, install one). Needless to say I am now in the market for a new transmission. I'm far less concerned about the cost than the quality. I want something good for around 600hp. Can anyone make a suggestion on who makes a great 727. B&M, Hughes, TCI. Are any of these good? Transmissions are the area of the car I know the least about. Any help will be appreciated. I was also thinking about adding a gear vendors over/under drive unit.

Cope or A&A.

Sure.

But what is probably more important, if you plan to keep it full automatic, is using an Ultra/Super sprag, and a billet front drum, IMO.

Of course, the tranny is not the problem (other than now it is broke).  What do you have for a drive shaft?

At that output level I think the sprag for sure and billet drums are the first things Rick Allison will inisist on, Cope too for that matter.

Right.  From a safety  and reliability stand point the parts are what matters.  A lot of people know transmissions, not only Rick and John.  Of course, most folks, including John, actually use Rick's parts.

For the money invested, might want to have the engine checked. Going from full load to broken is hard on things. Just because the motor didnt let go doesnt mean you didnt damage something. Just went through this with a superstocker friend who broke a band. Motor seemed fine but after the 2nd pass after trans replacement it lost a cylinder due to a cracked piston
