Help, I could use some good pictures and/or drawings of the exact cut out in the dash for the side AC vents
I am adding AC to a non-AC car and would like to use the factory type AC vents, not the under – aftermarket vents
The actual vent hole looks pretty straightforward but I'm not sure what they do with that small handle to shut the vent off at the bottom?
Thank you
Pat

Pat I think there's jst a hole in the bottom of the dash for the handle.  I have my car on stands since this morning so unless someone else posts a pic I'll remove one of the vents tomorrow and get you some pics and measurements.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I have my dash frame out right now as I am blasting and painting it. I can measure what ever you need. Just give me some specifics.

Here are the vents

The handle just pivots a flap inside the vent to restrict the air flow. Let me know if you need better pics.....I've had 4 beer and my photo skills are lacking right now!

A few more pictures of the actual dash and measurements of the holes for the vents in the dash would be great.
Thank you

Does anyone make the little levers for the vents. They are almost always missing.

keepat

That would be great, one of my vents is missing the little handle. I think it would be an easy part to make.

They do look easy to make, especially if you have one as a template. Buying one is easier though

Pat, I only have my iPhone with me and it won't allow me to upload pictures on this site. I'll email them to the address in your profile.

Here are the pics of the frame corner openings for future reference.

Pat, I ran across this on eBay the other day & thought of you.
Normally NOS stuff is priced high but at $9 bucks it should do the trick.  :2thumbs:

I also converted my non-A/C dash to A/C, just measured the openings on the dash vents, measured the hole at the bottom of the dash frame for the vent door stem, and eyeballed it.

Darren's pics are excellent!

$9 was a bargin for that handle. Good score...

I converted my non ac dash to ac stock vents for aftermarket AC.  I cut out the ac side vents from a rusted dash frame for a cut out pattern.  If I still have them laying around somebody else can use them to do the same thing. I should also have some extra vents and probably handles with them as I used Classic's supplied vents inserted in place of the stock ones Just will have to dig them up.

Found one side if needed

There is a member on moparts.com selling 1 knob for $5. His handle is littleredcoffin, he doesn't respond to PMs, you have to find his phone# in his posts.

Pat, if you are using an aftermarket kit from vintage air / classic air you may want to consider using their vents in your dash.  Fit is good and they look close to OEM, and you will not have to modify original vents to attach to the unit.

The vents in my pics above are Classic Air's vents.  I had to buy extra the vents from a factory a/c kit to be able to install in dash. You don't get the option of which vents when buying for non factory a/c car because it's all prepackaged.  I didn't want the under dash vents which is what comes with non air kits.  The CAA factory style a/c side vents will slip in the factory oem boxes pictured in DC_1's photo with a little trimming when the factory louvers are removed. It also keeps the shut off flap in place too.  The CAA vents/louvers for under dash mount are chrome highlighted.  The CAA factory a/c pieces are black.  I swapped the under dash chrome parts into the factory replacements just because of personal taste.  Just stating that so nobody thinks the CAA in dash pieces are plated like that in my pics.

Nice work oldcarnut, looks like they were born there  :2thumbs:.
