Anyone tried chrome paint on these?
Also, it seems that when I go to mount the base on the door the screws have nowhere to go, the holes in the door are to large? Were there clips or a nut welded to the door for the armrests to screw to? My doors are new AMD doors.

Dupli-color and others make some chrome paint which will get you by if you don't want to have them rechromed. Yes there are clips need that go in the door for the arm rest screws to go into. I have them if needed PM or e-mail me

There is no paint on the market that I am aware of that looks like chrome.  I purchased a can of "Bumper Chrome" paint and it is just silver paint.
There are several places that claim to have chrome in a can ... Eastwood is one I believe, but it is pricey.
Here are a couple links I have found:

Yes i agree you can't spray chrome from a can that i have seen either but as i mentioned one of the Chrome paints will get you by. If he wants show, send them in and have them rechromed

Alclad chrome paint when done right will look like real chrome, but it's really hard to do and you can't clear it so it won't last.  I'd just get repro bases, had mine for a few years now and they still look brand new.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I have struggled with this way too much. I have yet to find a chrome paint that you cannot rub off with your fingers. I gave up.

I have chrome spray paint from a can on my other brand car on the plastic A-Pillar moldings since the early 90's and it still looks great to this day, not a bit ever rubbed off peeled or cracked. My car placed 3rd place in a national officially judged brand specific event and numerous first places in many local shows so it must not look that bad. I am not 100% sure if it was dupli-color or not but it was a spray can. Appearance and durability depends largely many times on preparation/temps/materials and many other factors including on how the materials where stored before being bought or used.

I considered just flipping the armrest bases from one side to the other, which places the fresh bottom from one side to the top on the other.   Might work for you....didn't for me.

The repo ones I eventually purchased are really nice, and the cost was reasonable.....really glad I went that route.

Heres a pic of the armrest screw captive holes.

More often than not I see silver painted bases. It is one of those parts few want to pay to have right. But even originals look kind of cheap. It is the same chrome you see on model car bumpers. A method of doing it at home is using a Caswell plating kit. It works on plastic so long as you apply a conductive paint as a base (like shielding paint).

$55/pr.    Cheap enough to not dick around wiht doing it yourself.....in my opinion.

Ran into this the other day at Walmart and Lowes and made me think of this post. Called Mirror Paint".
My son tried it at Lowes ... it is just silver paint.
