So what do you use? I have no idea what is in the Dart and it's time to change the oil. A friend uses Royal Purple and that is it, think it's RP HPS or something. Another friend said that RP is a joke and uses something else.

So what to use?

Another is weight. What are the preferred weights that people use? I've always just used 5w30 but a mopar guy in the club said he believes I should be running 10w40 in my Dart.

If you have used a 30 weight oil with good idle and cruise pressures, then stick with it. As for brand, something designated as offroad use only due to high zddp. I prefer bradpenn.

That was in all my other cars.

My Dart generally runs at 43psi but when the engine oil gets really hot and you idle, it drops to 23psi

What coonhunter saids.....mine starts up at 55 and on cold days 60 psi and in super hot summers I can idle down to 40, but generaly im near 50 psi...with 20w-50 I idle at 60 on cold starts and hot summers I stay at 50 to 55psi.

23 is a little low for my personal preference. I would try a 10w40 and see how it reacts. I run 10w40 bradpenn in mine. Cold start idle is 80 psi, if you bring it up cold she will creep up on 100 psi fast. Operating temps are 60-70 cruise and 40-50 idling.

Ok now here is a question.

My car is currently running regular engine oil but I was told that I should switch to synthetic. Any problems with switching over to Synthetic during an oil change?  :shruggy:

All my vehicles I've just been using regular and I've never switched from one to the other.

I was using rotella 10w30 with adding zinc then switched over to Amsoil  10w-30 Z rod forumula with high zinc/phosphorus in there already.  Don't have any oil pressure  issues

My personal feeling is not to run a full synthetic on a flat tappet cam. Roller, yes by all means.

I use Mobil 1  15/50 in my charger oil pressure runs 70 at start up and 20 when hot at low idle in gear. never had an issue

BradPenn 10W x 40 here. Love the pressure reading!!

6spd68

In my 347 Stroker, I run 15W50 Mobile1, has worked great thus far.  I generally hover between 45-60PSI depending on the conditions.
