Differences in rear quarters 3rd Gen

Obviously the sidemarkers are different 71-72 versus 73-74, but my quarters are decent and I just need a piece at just the body line down.  I could just use sheet metal, but thought it would best to get a panel and spend less time bleeping with it if I could.  I mudded it last year just to help get a sticker.  MA is a pain!  I need a good old fashioned one-eyed inspector!

Are the body lines different too?  Can someone who has owned both say something definitive for the record?

Thanks in advance!

Bob

I know the wheel opening mouldings are different if that helps.  :popcrn:

sidemarkers are diff just on 71... 72s and lates are the same... this makes 71 an only one year production, same as 72, only one year... 73/74 the same

THE ONLY interchangeable patch between 71/74 on this is preciselly the pictured one from sidemarker to bottom. Rest of panel got diff body lines, shape and sizes everywhere. Allways fixable with a hammer, chissel, "scissors" and welding... lol

you know what I'd really do on it ? remove the trunk panel extension ( which is available new repro from AMD ) and fix that area from inside. Will preserv the quarter panel in one piece instead patched and extension will be replaced new on original welding points. Will be unnoticeable.

Mostly sure the trunk extension got some damage too or even got some rust

That is what I was thinking...that I would need to replace the extensions too.  There is a little rot in them for sure.  Now is seems that AMD is dropping the 3rd gen patches.  When I contacted their tech line about whether or not I could use the 71 or 72 patch they had NO CLUE.  No wonder why they weren't selling any!

No, 72-74 have the same side marker lights.  The quarters are different though.
But I think I know what you mean. 72 rear quarters are a one year only due to side marker lights but the 71-72 quarters have the same bodylines ect.

Nacho-RT74

thats what I meant, 72s are one year only QUARTERS ;) ... lates sidemarkers on earlier quarter shape ;)

note the 72 and lates SIDEMARKERS note just a few words before LOL

They both have rot at the bottom.  So are the body lines different on 71-72 vs. 73-74 behind the wheel well or not????    :shruggy:

Yes they are different 71 - 72 are the same (except marker lights) and 73-74 have different body lines.

Well...somebody might get a good deal on a 71 patch panel then!  I bought one from Tamaraz when I saw that AMD stopped making them.

Nacho-RT74

guys, AS PATCH, the rear section of panel is the same just right below the sidemarker...

I will take some photos when it arrives.

UPS just dropped off the 71 patch panel from Tamaraz (on ebay). Very nice piece.  All coated black.  I held it up to the quarter and it is definitely different, but still useful I think.  The body line seems the same but it seems a little longer and the areas at the end where the rear valence attaches may differ, but I can definitely use the wheel well opening.  Pictures tomorrow.

Nacho-RT74

doesn't have any sense, since trunk extensions are the same, rear valences are full plug and play interchangeable, same as bumpers, brackets etc... curve must match ( since follows the bumper countour ) and everything related.

IMHO I think could get some mismatch or imperfection on patch panel stamping procedure, but nothing more.

NOTE... I have analized DOZENS of pics of Chargers on that area when I was doing a body patch job around 8 years ago and NONE got same height of lower body line on rear end. Some matched the valence, some others the bumper. Your is just right in the middle, so even factory, could get some missmatch I guess

I tried again and it is a perfect fit excepting the turn signal.  I took a bunch of photos but I have to down size them to post them.

I just know the front fenders and doors have a different body line.  I'd trust nacho Cheese here.  :Twocents:
