heater blower motor staying on

Trying to figure out the problem with the switching/wiring on my 68 heater blower motor. The blower is always on low; even with the switch turned to "off" and the ignition off. I have to disconnect the battery when not using the car as the motor will keep running on low and drain the battery.
The blower works correctly otherwise; it goes through low medium high settings with the switch well; I just cant get it to go off. Also, its a newer issue as it wasnt doing this when I first finished the restoration.
Anyone got any ideas/suggestions?

Any chance the blower lever in the dash that runs the electric power switch is not pulling up far enough to turn it off ?
Maybe the switch has come loose and gotten a bit closer to make the lever not travel far enough ?

gonna check that this afternoon; dont think there should be power to the blower motor with the ignition off for the same reason that it could run the battery down if you leave it on, or am I wrong in this?
