Gone With The Wind - Sold My 77 Charger SE This Weekend

Sold my Charger this weekend. A guy in Shawano, WI bought it to turn into a "rat rod" project for him and his son. Sold his '75 Roadrunner to buy it. Hard to see it go, especially to someone who is going to cut it up and ruin the originality of the car, but his money is just as green as everyone else's I suppose. Second pic is just after I dropped it off.

It should be an interesting build to say the least.  I will be looking forward to seeing pictures of what he calls a "Rat Rod"....

I spent some time looking for one of these or a Cordoba to chop, and never could find a cheap decent one to jump on. The urge has passed now.

They have no idea it needs to be a car older then the 1940's to be a true rat rod.

Well, in my opinion they do. I just don't care for rat rods with fenders.

MCG is getting on the rat rod musclecar bandwagon.  I suppose they don't yet what else to call it but its basically the rusty primered look most of them had in the late 70's when they were just beat up used cars.

That was my point... what's the point of even going for that. I don't see nothing cool about it on a '50's and newer car.

Desperation.  All of the more desirable cars like the Camaros, Mustangs, Chevelles and of course our Mopars have gone to ridiculous prices, leaving much fewer options when it comes to car fans on a budget.  So now, people buy into cars that wouldnt have been seen as a hot buy a decade ago and develop all sorts of far-out ideas, just because the cheap "desirable" cars are a thing of the distant past...

i've seen 2 door 70-72 skylarks and 70's firebirds (no motor, missing interior trim) for 1-2000$   those could have been used for his "Rat-Rod"

The car looks kinda beat , its already half way to a rat.
Calling a ratty 77 charger a rat rod is a stretch of the term.
Its just a ratty old 70s cruiser that could also be considered a "rod" to people that don't know the term.

But, you have to admit on the positive side of it that A) Lizey sold the car so he's happy, and B) its a father-son project so someone is keeping a kid interested in old cars and in particular Mopars.  The car is helping to pass the torch.

Back on subject, congrats on the sale    Are there any plans to acquire a different Charger?

Sounds like a bargain to me; most definitely not in California where everything costs 20x's as much, and I'd say those bargain cars are the exception, not the rule.

Or who knows?  Maybe this father-son duo actually LIKE these sorts of cars. A friend of mine SWEARS by mid 70's to mid 80's cars; says they're the best, most beautiful cars ever made and wouldn't trade his '77 Regal for a new Hellcat...

Rods, ie. something prior to 1940 before everything turned into an upside down bathtub.  I suppose the '77 would technically be rat machines since rods were everything prior to 1950, shoeboxes were primary to the '50s and street machines were everything from the muscle era.

Money is going towards new cab corners/rocker panels on my 1993 Sierra. Grandfather gave it to me when I turned 16, so it's got a little more sentimental value than the Charger and being away at school I only have room to store one of them anymore.
