Front Servo Spring Missing? Why????

I took the tranny apart to rebuild and the fat outter spring on the front kickdown servo is missing.  The skinny /tall one is there.  Why would someone do this?  Anyone have one laying around that you'd like to sell me?

Thanks,
Jon

Some applications used only the skinny inner spring. What's your trans number?
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

The numbers on the side are H2801543 3331828.

Thanks,
Jon

2801543 would have originally come with both an inner and outer spring.

Ok, thank you. I will order one. What benefit would someone hope to achieve by leaving it out?

Thanks,
Jon

The factory had some strange (to my thinking) ideas about performance 727's, they felt that performance transmissions worked better without the outer servo spring and without the accumulator spring...both are contrary to today's thinking.

They probably felt that the second servo spring reduced the band apply pressure (which it does, a little).

That makes sense. This is my first 727 so trying to understand it all. Pretty eady tranny to take apart and reassemble.

Thanks,
Jon
