Is it possible to tell if my 8 3/4 rear end on my 70 charger is original. Is there a vin stamp?

Lord Warlock

wash it off and you may see some of the factory paint markings, I did and that told me they were probably originals, not sure of a tag anywhere or a vin.  I doubt many swapped out the entire rear end, if it broke I'd swap out the chunk in the middle.

There is no vin on any of it. The ring gear will have a date stamp on it.

Thanks guys.
Mine is having some issues so I am looking into repairing / replacing it. If I could prove it was original I would be concerned keeping it.. but if not....

Lord Warlock

From what I hear, the 8 3/4 doesn't die easy, tends to be pretty tough.  I spent time cleaning mine off when running new brake lines, and found the factory markings on it, when I painted over the rest of the unit I left the marks visible.
