Apparently Hell has frozen over, because a car company has stopped selling its hottest cars.

Dodge is hitting the brakes on the "Hellcat" versions of the Challenger and Charger, suspending orders of the 707 hp muscle machines due to overwhelming demand. The two share the title of "most powerful American production car in history," and boast top speeds of 199 mph and 204 mph, respectively. The automaker was caught off guard by interest in the pair since they were released late last year, and has already received orders for twice as many as it planned to build for 2015. The shortage has led to 50 percent markups on the $60,000-plus by some dealers, while others have reportedly taken dozens of deposits on cars they could take years to deliver, leading Dodge to warn customers of what it called "unscrupulous" behavior.

Now, it wants to get its house in order.

"Due to unprecedented demand for the 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats, we are temporarily restricting orders while we validate current orders that are in the system," the company tells FoxNews.com.

There's no official word on when the order books will be reopened, but according to a source at AllParNews.com it could be August before Dodge gets caught up.

:slap:  CANADIAN order banks are still open while orders from last July when the order banks opened here go unfiled. Only American banks have closed.
They don't send cars to Canada anyway so there was no need to close the order banks here lol
Production so far has USA getting 2500+ cars while Canada hasn't hit 200

Next week will start my 9 month of waiting for this car   :eek2:

TruckDriver

It will be 2017 production of the cars, and people will still be getting their 2015's they ordered  :P

Like Dodge had no idea the Hellcat would be a hot seller?   Someone needs to be handed a mop and have his name removed from the door as they really missed the boat on this one......(most everyone else saw the car as being a big seller.....) :slap:

It's very simple, build the dam cars.   I think they're doing this on purpose to create more attention and demand.  I call B.S. on Dodge.  Build the Frickin cars.   After all, isn't that what dodge does is build cars?   B.S. B.S. B.S. B.S. B.S. B.S.   Congratulations dodge,  you hit a homerun and you're still standing at home plate instead of running the bases.  I dare say Taco Bell would be quicker to act to customer demand.

Perhaps in the Musclecar ranks, but the American made Vector and Shelby Aero still hold the most powerful and fastest AMERICAN production cars ever built

Why is it so hard to believe the official story here?  These stupid-fast expensive limited editions don't normally sell this well at all.  Dodge puts together each car using tons of farmed-out subassemblies.  It's a HUGE undertaking to start & stop all the machinery involved in making the cars, from raw material suppliers to finished vehicles.
