I had a Honda well used XR650L and sold it when I got a nicer Kawasaki KLR650.  I ride them to work and off road with full but DOT legal knobbies. I'm 6'7" and avg 246pds and needed a tall bike. To me the Honda was a lot more beefier for off road but I disliked the small gas tank for trips.  The KLR has a 5 gal tank but is a little too soft for my liking for any aggressive off road riding.  Does great on road though.  I used to race motocross back as teen and still like the off road riding but I'm a 100pds heavier now .  I'm getting more reluctant everyday to ride them on the road for work due to the inattention, texting, and crowded roads with just plain hazardous drivers in the vehicles but still would do it to get to trails.  At almost 55yrs old I know it's going to hurt for a while if I ever get into a car vs bike accident.  I've avoided several potential accidents but my brother (10 yrs younger) has been in about 7 and I don't know how he survived some of them but he was on choppers and customs and has been out of work for last 2 months trying to recover from the last one.  I'd like to start looking for a true XR off road with a street title or another brand suited for harder off road use.  Some states don't title new race bikes as off road use only like SC does so it's possible to find them out there with the Baja kits and street legal.  Does anyone own other brands like KTM or something else that they like or recommend?
