hey Guys

i need help choosing a muffler for my daytona clone . i'm doing side exhaust , Nascar style. i'm putting in a new 440 sixpack motor with comp cam's sixpack cam . largest cam with the stock convertor with Hooker comp headers . 2 1/2 in collector .

i have flowmasters on 3 cars  . so i want something different . i want a throaty, tuff sound and i guess the muffler can't be to long cause i'm dumping out the sides .

any suggestions .

i was just looking at summit last night ,
im trying to quiet mine down, theres a double straight though cross pattern muffler,  i was thinking of using instead of the x pipe , i was thinking this to sneak another muffler on mine, and it would fit before side pipe exits ,  :Twocents:

I just put Dynomax Ultraflow 14" welded case mufflers on my car. Coming from the Flowmasters I was extremely happy with the results. Definitely a little quieter in cab, and that great crisp tone at idle and nothing but great sound at WOT. :2thumbs:

Although with sidepipes these might not work since they are similar to a Flowmaster in shape. Maybe try out the "Bullit" mufflers? :shruggy:

I don't believe he is going for sidepipes but rather a side exit exhaust. Something more along the lines of TA/AAR.

Might search for mufflers with entry/exit points on the same end of the muffler so you can moutn the muffler in the stock location then arch the tail pipe out the side.

What series of flowmasters do you have ?.
The 44 series are suppose to have that deep roar.  :Twocents:

Are you going to have both pipes exit on one side or one on each side?  I was thinking of running both the side and the regular tailpipes but using a set of cutouts that will direct flow through one or the other but not both at same time as regular dumps would do.

If you are going for the nascar clone then dont bother with mufflers.... :icon_smile_big:

i think i have flowmaster 44's on my 39 coupe .they sound great   but i want something different. more aggressive . i had glass packs on this car with the old engine .

i figure with these Dynomax Race Bullets they would sound mean . i can weld it to the collector and coat them to match the headers. there made out of stainless . then all i need is two lengths of stainless pipes and stainless tips . that would be cool .

cdr , that looks great but way to expensive for my wallet

Maybe you might want zero exhaust.  Loud, but fun.  Just like some of the motorcycles on the road. I can hear them a mile away.

If that's the case, I bet they have sound level requirements you have to meet as well. I doubt any of the glass pack and small racing sizes you are looking at will meet these thresholds. You may have mufflers and still get a ticket if they feel it is too loud. If its anything like noise ordinances I'm familiar with, you then have to take you car to a test where they'll verify, and if you are over the limit, the ticket sticks and your responsible for the fine, testing and will still need to present present documentation showing it was fixed.

You might need to run a conventional routed exhaust and put turn downs off the mufflers to direct the exhaust out the side.
