anyone have any info or experiences with it? Supposedlly it is a glowing ball that travels down this old country road near joplin missouri and you can see almost everynight...it's been more than just a local legend as you can see at the website above as it's been published in magazines and such...just wondering because me and my buddys are wanting to go out and camp along the road for a night and see if we can see it and i was just wondering if it's worth the trip...has anybody on here heard of it?

Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

my cousin made a special trip to go see it.  He said it was worth the trip.

MOPARHOUND!

I went to college north of there in Pittsburg, KS.  Guys would come back telling about it, very real.

From what I recall, it was like trying to chase the end of a rainbow, if you tried to figure out it's source.  It would move around without rhyme or reason, sometimes disappear and reappear.  Makes you wonder if it has something to do with the earth's magnetic field or something, weird.

Sightings predate modern technology.  Indians spoke of it back in the 1800's.

Interesting....

I didn't know there was another one.  There is a similar light in Upper Michigan near Waters Meet. Just after you cross over the central time zone marker there is a road to the left called Robins Pond Rd. you go down the road and park your car and it will appear every night. It is so bright it makes you squint your eyes. Once in awhile it changes color to a red/orange color too. That one is also referred to as the "Dogmedow Lights".  It was first discovered in the late 1800's when loggers first came to that area but the local Indians up there say it has been around much longer than that. That pretty much rules out car, train, or aircraft lights reflecting. I do know there were some studies done but no one could present a valid explaination for it.

Stuff like this is kind of cool....

Yea, one direct blast of a spotlight while wearing night vision goggles would feel real good on your eyeballs I bet. :P

Well it would seem worth it, at least just to say you were there.  Interesting story, I know I'd be out with a large grojup of people positioned every 100 yards or so to see if we can "capture" the light.  :P

Bandit,

We have several that are often spotted in the Chinati Mountains outside of Marfa, Texas.  You can run a search on them under the term "Marfa Lights".  I grew up in that country and to this day no one can figure out exactly what is going on.  Many years ago, they were said to be the campfire of the Apache War Chief Alsalte.  His tribe had been raiding down into Mexico pretty hot and heavy and the Mexicans lured them into a plaza across the Rio Bravo to talk peace.  Once inside, all exits were closed and Mexican troops mowed them down.  I guess it is one way of effectively quelling the restless natives.  The campfire story signified a signal fire to lead his people back home.

During WWII, Marfa had a medium bomber training field just outside of town.  Many a fledging bomber crew chased those lights all over the Chinati Mountains but to no avail.  They nearly cracked up a couple of bombers in the process and were told to knock it off before someone smoked a hole into the side of a mountain.

When I was stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, there was a story about a light along some rail road tracks in the Wilmington area.  They were regionally famous.  It supposedly looked like an old railroaders latern and was the main subject of many a railroad ghost story in that part of North Carolina.  Come to think of it, there were a lot of spooky stories along the coast of North Carolina.

May God bless America,
