Ok should be getting my motor back by Friday and I remember the last time I had ths 383 rebuilt that the shop had to rig the oil pickup in some way so that it worked.  Since I just had the shop do the main machine work, and I will be assembling this thing, I was curious what I will need to do.  If I remeber right the oil pickup for a 1970 383 is the same one used for the 440 so it has to be slightly bent in order for it to fit correctly.  I am adding a windage tray if this makes a difference.  If this thing needs bent what is the best way to go about doing it without ruining the pickup, and how will I need to measure the clearance between it and the oil pan.

the  383   and 440  pick up tubes are NOT the same!!!!   Be careful  what you get....I got a 440  pick up tube  to put in my 383   and it was wrong.....luckily...i got it from a junkyard so it didnt cost me anything....lol :P

All I know is that with the kit the last shop ordered for my car it had a longer pickup than what was needed, but the pistons and everything else were fine.

Right....the  413  through 440....the tube itself is straight...as far as the 361, 383, 400....the tube has  sort of a "camel hump" curve in it  and is a bit shorter.
