Wonder why the liquidation of his collection ?Ron Pratt is doing the same thing at BJ Scottsdale.

Apparently that is about half the collection.  He is selling them off to make room:

Tim Wellborn said he is selling off the cars from his museum in Alexander City, Alabama, to provide space for others.

"The goal here is really to make room to continue rotating the museum inventory," Wellborn said. "Space is limited, so we can't just keep adding to the current group of cars, and we want to keep the muscle-car displays fresh – and always the best of the best. This is actually the start of a new era for the Wellborn Musclecar Museum."

I think the "Half the collection" statement put out by Hemmings was sensationalized.    Tim has bought some other cars since the announcement.     All the cars offered will have reserves.  It is likely some of them will be coming home.      There won't be any bargain basement prices.

Yeah, further checking around after the Hemmings story pretty much backs up what you are saying exactly Doug.  Tim is no fool.

That's actually the one that puzzles me because I thought they were the basis for the collection.  I fully understand expanding the scope of it now that he has the museum but his personal connection to the 71 Charger made me think he would keep those.  I thought he was bent to own all the Hemi ones.

That's what I thought as well.  The article I read in Hemming's Muscle Machines about him from a few years ago made it sound like he was all about the '71s and not much else.  Maybe he's changed his tastes...

Just my own misunderstanding; I always looked at his situation as more of a personal collection, than a museum.  Personally, that's how I'd do it.  Hemming's magazine would never know about my inventory...

His certainly started that way but it kind of took on a life of its own.  Especially after he bought the old dealership to house them in, it just became too cool a place to show off cars that people were always bugging him to look at anyway.

Nor I pal, nor I.  I do know that Tim is no silver spoon guy, he got where he is through a LOT of hard work and long hours.

He still does have a variety of 71 cars stashed away at his home.  He didn't get rid of them all.

The heck with the Wellborn collection ,I watched the hour long Barrett-Jackson preview of the Ron Pratte collection going up on BJ this year .Holy Crap !!!!!! Cars ,memorabilia ,pedal cars ,planes ,boats ,buses ,etc.There are some in there a few mill a piece !!!

Ive always thought Pratte and  Craig Jackson were in bed together and still do. Lots of smoke and mirrors going on. If you ask me they're Both crooks. Funny how much they give to "charity" and that whole business of writing off charitable donations for tax benefits has made each of them several millions.

They both need thorough rectal exams from the IRS
