Guys, Im rebuildning some stuff in front of my 1970 Charger like bushings, disc brakes etc.

Today I removed the torsion bars and they are 3/4" thick. (Marked: 779L 489 (drivers side), Passenger side: CZL 778R.)

I have a stroked 426 hemi (to 496" with approx 700hp) so I guess its pretty heavy.

Should I consider upgrade the torsion bars as well? I use it ONLY on the street. Stock look.
See my avatar.

Any ideas?

thx!

Go to PST suspension's website; they'll get you what you need.  Personally, if I was running an overbored Hemi I wouldn't be running a stock type suspension but that's just me...

Ok thanks for that link, I will stick to 0.96" and new shocks as well as all bushings!  :2thumbs:

get rid of the HEMI then don't worry about torsion bars.  I will trade you torsion bars for your hemi engine..problem solved.

Original T-bars are going to be perhaps .88" diameter at the absolute smallest.  IIRC the .90" size would have been standard on any V8-engine 1970 Charger.  They built them with .92" bars on the 440 & Hemi cars.   These days most people replace them with bigger sizes, like .96" or more.

Yeah, my 440 will have at least a .96", more likely a 1.00".   Just a little extra stiffness over stock RT.

I just did this to my Daytona with my 426 HEMI install. I went to the .96 version. So far, the feel is fine.........  :2thumbs:

Good to hear! I guess i will be happy in some months (like april/may) when all snow is gone and everything is replaced that was bad.

Need some new U-joints to my Unisteer as well. They had no clearence so they scraped against each other.. Need to figure out how to get clearance for my TTI 2 1/8" tubes..

Thanks again guys!

Don't forget to match the shocks to the TB, a stiffer TB will take a different shock to match its rates.  Ask the TB manufacturer or the folks on here.

Good idea!

I got new Mopar Performance 0.96" Torsion Bars and new KYB front KG4510 shocks.

I hope this will work well togheter with my Unisteering stuff.

FYI - the MoPar stock cars back in the day ran 1.5" bars or even a little more!
And they were 4" shorter, further increasing the rate!
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?
