Fuel lines and brake lines...

Fellas,

I have a few questions concerning the fuel lines and brakes lines, but before I start I do want to let you know that I am a novice when it comes to all of this.  :icon_smile_tongue:  I would like to try and do all of this on my own since I don't have a money tree growing in my backyard.  All I ask is that please be patient  :pity: with my "dumb" questions.

So having said that, here is a very brief summary on my charger.  I bought it in 2005, and it's been sitting this whole time with an occasional start up.  I've been using a gas can with a hose running to the fuel pump.  That was the only way I could get it to start since the gas tank on my car was completely rusted inside.  Anyhow, my questions are as follows:

1. Would it be a good idea to replace the entire fuel lines?  If so, how difficult would it be with the engine still in the engine bay.  At the moment, I am replacing the trunk floor and that is the only part of the car that is torn down.  What would I have to disassemble, if anything, in order to make it easier or it going to be a b**ch to replace no matter what I do?

2. Same question for the brake lines.  Would it be wise to change them?

Thanks, fellas.

fuel and brakes , not that difficult a job ,
just need the right hand tools , hand benders and a good flaring tool for brake line, if your very careful in taking old out , you can copy the bends and lengths out on the ground , mostly right as you put it back in

You can remove the hard brake line at the transition points (rear axle and the front wheel wells) and the distribution block (mounted on the frame rail below the master).  You can then use compressed air (or some spray line cleaner...Eastwood has some probably others too).  If the fluid in the lines comes out clean and the exterior is in good shape they are probably good to use.  Make sure you inspect the rubber lines (unless they are stainless steel) for dry rot and other signs of wear.

You should defiantly replace the brake lines. The fuel line  is is not a bad idea either. You could do this job 2 ways. 1 buy pre bent lines 2 buy off the shelf lines and bend them your self. You will also need to learn to flair tubing. The options depend on skill set and money. Learning to bend and flair lines is not difficult. To do it nicely is another thing. I can do the work but choose to buy to buy pre bent lines as they look nice and fit well. There is also the time factor But this is my fun car. on my daily driver I just bend my own and call it a day

Thanks for the replies.  I will be buying the fuel lines and brake lines from FineLinesInc.  Would it be easier to replace the fuel lines and brake line now since I have the trunk floor out right now or does it even matter?  If you guys can think of anything else, please feel free to add.

I replaced my stock fuel line with the bigger line + return line from the Right Stuff last year.  They are preformed and fit pretty good but it's nice to have a bender in case you need to tweak them.  I had my car on tall stands with the axle lowered and the rear shocks off, since they needed replacing, and it was pretty straightforward.  I did need a lot of room around the car to get the line under the car at the right angle so I had to move some things.  I don't know if it's easier with the trunk floor out but it might.  Not crucial though.  I also bought new clips to attach the dual lines to the car but if you're replacing yours with the same size then the old clips are probably fine.

sorry to hi-jack this
Dino was the return line original to your car if not where did you connect it at the tank?

It was not original.  I bought a new sending unit that had a return line hook up.
