69 pitman arm on a 73 steering box

So, today I discovered that the steering box I had designated for my 69 is for a 73. So, it has the larger diameter shaft/spline and won't work with a 69 pitman arm.  :brickwall:

As far as I can tell, using the 73 pitman arm means changing all the steering linkage plus the k-frame because the idler arm mounts differently.

So, is there a custom pitman arm available to make the 73 steering box work with the 69 steering system?

I'm open to other suggestions.

EDIT: <----Hey, look. I'm a Full Member now!  :coolgleamA:

A second look today showed the 73 and 69 pitman arms are bent differently, but the splines and ball joint end up in the same position.

I'll roll with it and see what happens...

actually 73s got 4 master keys on splines. 72 and earliers are continuous splines... now, about the stering box perfect interchange ?... mmm dunno, K member changes too...  could this make a diff steering box position, hence a diff pitman arm ? dunno.
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

Both steering boxes have 4 master keys....so maybe the box with the smaller diameter shaft is something else entirely. I don't know for sure what car it came from.

I don't care at this point as long as it works. All the angles seem to line up, but I won't know for sure until it's on the car.

EDIT: I've read that you cannot use a 73 k-frame in a 2nd gen. The steering shaft won't line up. As far as I can tell, the boxes are the same (except for the shaft size) So the mounts must be different.

Call Firmfeel or Steer & Gear and ask them?

ODZKing

I am not perfectly clear on the difference in the years but I do know when I put a Firm Feel box on my 67 Charger, I had to order the 73 arm from them or it would not work.  I'm sure they explained a reason why, I just don't remember.
Works beautifully though.  :yesnod:

yes me too , when I had one of their firm feel boxes , they supplied the correct later pitman arm & also included a new nut & washer

get a pitman arm for a 1973-74 E body and it'll work just fine

For future readers of this thread: I used the '73-up pitman arm and steering box with '69 idler arm, center link and steering column. Everything works great!
