Is the story credible that it is a real Daytona with a XS instead of an XX VIN?

It is not numbers matching engine or tranny. Is it becuase it appears to have some original daytona parts? I know the 68 hemi is valuable in it's own right, but it has 70 carbs.

Why is this going for so much money?

Shakey

From my understanding it is a Charger 500 that was cloned into a Daytona.

I think there is a thread about it in the Aero Section.

Correct....VIN is too low for a Daytona.  Its not unusual for an early 500 to have an XS VIN # on the tag as well

Even so if it is 69 Charger 500 would it not still have a XX29 as the prefix for the VIN???
Something is not right as it does not compute..... ???

69_500

It is a true HEMI Charger 500. The XX is in the VIN number on the dash, however all 500's with a build date before November 18th, have XS in the fender tag. Well I shouldn't really say all, but 100% of the ones I hvae in my list do anyways. Somewhere on the day of November 18th, it starts getting XX in the fender tag as well. Haven't quite figured out when it went to XX in the buildsheets though.

By the way that is also a very early HEMI 500 as well. Also very low origional miles on the body.

Big Lebowski

It's got a Hemi, that brings out the stupid money, kinda like the BJ auction prices.
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

The auction says it was originally a 440 car. Still not sure why it is going for so much.
